There are two large exhibitions, a collection of work by Hannalie Taute and also work from local textile artists.
Firstly - HANNALIE TAUTE – Hannalie has kindly loaned some of her humorous and thought provoking ‘embroidery on rubber’ pieces to the Pink Haus Gallery. She won the Kanna award for Best Visual Artist at the KKNK 2014 Festival held in Oudtshoorn and UNISA have just bought two of her pieces for their collection. I feel really honoured to have her work here.
Secondly - “Conscience of the Human Spirit – The Life of Mandela” – A collection of 40 pieces produced by the Michigan State University Museum in collaboration with South African textile artists. – The 40 works on show are beautifully executed and have a powerful message to give as they share the words of Madiba and the contributions he made to society.
And last but not least – “TRANSITION” – 28 judged and juried art quilts which were entered into the International Quilt Convention Africa held at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg in July. The standard is high and there are some interesting interpretations of the theme.
Gallery times – weekdays 10 to 3, Saturdays by appointment. Call Vivienne on 082 730 1001 for further information.
For those of you in the area please feel free to pop in, for those that can’t make it I’ll post some pics under the gallery Tab under Transition.
Till next time.
