The van arriving at George Railway Museum Station. The Museum itself is well worth a visit.
The view down out of the van's window - that is quite a serious drop down there! The dark spot in the centre of the picture is a pool of dark water - all the water that runs through the mountains is steeped in fynbos and looks and smells like a herbal tea- it apparently has many healing qualities.
Looking down on Montagu Pass. This is the dirt road that crosses the Outeniquas. It was built in 1913 and gunpowder was used to blast through the rock. It is still a popular road among bikers.
The picnic site overlooking George. The van stops there on the way down the mountain.
Approaching one of the six tunnels that the van goes through.
Looking back out of the window of the van - the smaller van that was being pulled is visible as are the controls.
This is the highest point from where the van goes back down again. We dismounted by climbing down a ladder on the side whilst the guide turned all the seats around to face downhill! There are controls at the front and back of the van so the driver just swops ends for the return journey. the dirt road on the left of the railway line is the Montagu Pass road.
This is at the turnaround spot. The driver had to check in with Control in Worcester before we could head off down the mountain again.
